Starting therapy can be hard
I strive to provide a space for all individuals regardless of gender, sexual orientation, cultural differences, education level or religious beliefs. While at our core our humanity binds us all together, the expression of that humanity can take countless forms and I create a therapy space that honors that.
ABOUT ME
I have both a Master of Divinity from Duke University and a Master of Counseling from Loyola University, Chicago. With over 15 years of experience in the mental health field, I have been able to live my passion which is to help and be in community with other people. I work with transitional age youth (18-25) and adults for individual therapy to work on issues such as adapting to change, grief and loss, depression and anxiety, burnout, family conflict as well as other life challenges. I have experience as both a foster and an adoptive parent and I live with my school age son in Durham. In my free time I enjoy reading, time outside and being with friends and family.
My approach to therapy
My approach honors the fact that no two people are the same and that each person is the expert on his or her own life. I work best with a “bifocal lens” with an emphasis both on what is happening right now that is bringing you to therapy and holding space for the goodness, growth, wholeness and love that the future holds. My primary modality is Internal Family Systems. In sessions we will explore the different parts that make up the entirety of you. Parts that you love, parts you would rather not have, parts you don't know very well - all of them are working hard to keep you safe and all of them are welcomed into our sessions. IFS is deeper work designed to help people truly know themselves and gain greater access to their own unique wisdom.
